I Guess I’m a Wine Snob?

May 19, 2011

I’ve turned into a wine snob apparently. I just returned from a vacation in Las Vegas and one thing I always do is treat myself to a dinner at a fancy steakhouse.

I was seated at the restaurant and the server asked if I needed the wine list. I replied no but told him that I knew what I wanted. I asked for an Italian Dolcetto and the server could not believe I was actually ordering something other than Merlot or a Cabernet.

The server was on cloud 9 with his new found kindred soul. He was telling other customers what I ordered and they would just stare at me. I decided to have a little fun and ordered a glass of Gruner Veltliner, a nice white- while I waited for my steak. This brought a never ending smile from my new friend.

I can’t take all of the credit for my server’s adulation. Without the Selection Limited Edition program I would never have had a chance to try the Dolcetto (released 2008) or Gruner Veltliner (released 2010).

Cheers,

Bob, Manager (Wine Sense- Springfield Rd.)

Two decades of Change and Growth

May 17, 2011

As we all know, a lot of changes happen over 20 years. Businesses like people if they survive, grow and change.

Winse Sense is a good example. When the owners Colin and Craig Swanston opened their business 20 years ago the drink of choice for many people in Manitoba was beer, and the company’s name “The Brew Doctor” reflected this.

Over the years we have seen a major shift to wine as the drink of choice for many Manitobans. The demand for beer kits dropped, and wine kits were what the customers were buying. This change eventually lead to to a re-focus and a name change to “Wine Sense”.

Along with the name change came a new corporate image, reflected in the new look stores and logo. The enphasis was no longer on selling a product, but a life style. If you have seen our T.V. commercials you will get a good sense of that… Live Well Affordably

The quality and variety of wines offered increases with each year, bringing new and exciting wines to try. Many of our loyal customers eagerly await the annual Limited Edition kits, highlighted each November at our Limited Edition Wine Tasting evenings. There are also our summer products that people look forward to such as Spanish Rose, Twisted Mist Mojitos and Margaritas all… great Summer drinking!

And to highlight our 20th Anniversary year we have our 20th Anniversary Wines to enjoy. These two unique wines were made especially for Wine Sense and are not available anywhere else in the world! They are in limited supply, so don’t miss out!

So enjoy Summer, the good life, and of course wine!

Cheers,

Diane (Wine Sense- McPhillips St.)

Twisted Mist Lime Margarita

May 13, 2011

A customer was kind enough to drop off a bottle of the new Twisted Mist Lime Margarita the other day for me to try- she was very pleased with the way it turned out. So last night I decided to take it on a test drive. I have to confirm her assessment… the Twisted Mist Lime Margarita is good, very good.

It has a pronounced lime flavour and not sweet at all. I tried it on it’s own and blended with mineral water over ice, both equally tasty. This is one beverage everyone should have in their cellar for summer.

Cheers,

Margarita Bob, Manager (Wine Sense- Springfield)

note: Twisted Mist kits are on sale until May21st!

Think Pink!

May 12, 2011

I along with many other people were extremely disappointed last year when the Selection International Spanish Rosé wasn’t offered- well it’s a new year and it’s back due to popular demand! If you haven’t picked one up yet I highly recommend it.

Spanish Rosé is a perfect wine on it’s own and a great food wine. It will compliment a variety of summer foods including: BBQ chicken or pork with lots of barbecue sauce, hamburgers, salmon, potato salad, sandwiches… I could go on but I’m getting hungry.

A good quality Rosé is a great addition to any wine collection and gives you another option to just offering red or white.

Spanish Rosé is currently in stock and should be available until the end of May.

Call or stop by your favourite Wine Sense location and get a Selection International Spanish Rosé ready for the hot weather!

Cheers,

Bob, Manager (Wine Sense- Springfield)
