Wine Tasting Fun!

November 23, 2012

Happy wine tasters at the Winnipeg Festival!

Well, the Limited Edition Wine Tasting Festivals and Component Wine Tastings are over- 4 fun nights of wine. Thanks to all of our friends who attended each night. It was great seeing and talking with you about the LE2012 wines. It’s always a treat for all of the Wine Sense staff to be able to chat with our customers with a glass of wine in our hands!

The new Component Tastings we offered this year were very popular with great feed-back from our customers as a great way to learn about wine in general followed by a guided tasting of the LE2012 wines.

There is still time to reserve the 2012’s if you haven’t done so- the pre-order deadline is December 7th. So stop in to your favourite Wine Sense location or by clicking through to our secure online LE2012 Pre-order App.

7 wines and 5 Components at the Component Tasting

Tim was a hit on all 4 nights and entertained and informed as usual!

On a personal note- if you’re a red wine drinker and do not reserve an Italian Nebbiolo with crushed Grapeskins, you will be missing out on one great wine.

And remember- all 5 styles are 18 litres this year! That means you’re only adding 5 litres of water!

See you soon.
Happy fermenting.

Wine Festival Tonight!

November 16, 2012

In action at last year’s tastings!

I’m looking forward to seeing everyone tonight at our Wine Sense LE2012 Wine Festival. Tim Vandergrift will be there to present the 5 Limited Edition wines which start arriving in January and of course there will then be the Wine Tasting with Food Pairing. I will be there pouring wine and helping you decide on your next favourite wines. This year we have a bigger room for the Festival Tasting so it will be a little easier to get from table to table.

And if you’re looking for something new try the Component tasting tomorrow night! It was a huge hit yesterday in Brandon.

There are still a hand-full of tickets available for both events- so contact your favourite Wine Sense Location to arrange for tickets.

This year’s wines are wonderful and the pre-orders from the Brandon events are proving so!

See you there.

It’s Tasting Time!

September 21, 2012

It’s time to get your tickets for the Limited Edition 2012 wine tastings!
Yes, it is that time again. Four exciting evenings (2 in Brandon, 2 in Winnipeg) with guest speaker, wine guru and all around great guy Tim Vandergrift. The tastings are:

Brandon
Wine Festival Wednesday November 14th
Component tasting Thursday November 15th

Winnipeg
Wine Festival Friday November 16th
Component Tasting Saturday November 17th.

Now you are wondering “What is the difference between the 2 nights? Wine Festival and Component?” The details are below but to summarize the Wine Festival is our standard tasting event that many of you have attended in the past. The Component Tasting offers a sit-down session with a guided tasting of the 5 individual components of wine (Oak, tannin, acid, alochol, sweetness) with two ‘benchmark’ wines. TO be specific you’ll taste tannin- and then identify it in the benchmark wines, acid and identify, oak and identify etc.

LE2012 Wine Festival (our standard tasting event)

– Location: Victoria Inn Hotel & Convention Centre in both Winnipeg and Brandon
– Doors open at 7:00 Presentation starts at 7:30
– Tim does his Presentation on this year’s wines (30 – 45 minutes)
– You’ll then go from table to table to taste the wines with food pairings

LE2012 Component Tasting (NEW!)

– Location: Victoria Inn Hotel & Convention Centre in both Winnipeg and Brandon

– You’ll then taste the components with a benchmark red & white to identify the 5 components in context with wine.
– You’ll then use you new skills in a guided tasting of each of the 5 Limited Edition wines. Wines are discussed, tasted, and tried with the food pairing one at a time guided by Tim

Followed by a Q & A Session with Tim- a winemakers dream!

3 Degrees of Separation

May 4, 2012

Wine Sense had the good fortune to attend this year’s Winnipeg Wine Festival Gala Dinner last night. It’s one of the many events that make up the full week of the Festival. The Wine Festival is a major fund raising event for Special Olympics Manitoba.

This year’s Theme Region’s are BC and Ontario and as a result the wines for the dinner were supplied by Canadian Wineries. Which is where the world really gets small for Wine Sense and our customers…

The Keynote Speaker was John Peller. John is the President and CEO of Andrew Peller Limited which is responsible for such well known Canadian wine brands as Peller Estates, Hillebrand and Copper Moon just to name a few.

What else is Andrew Peller Limited known for? Winexpert and Vineco- the two manufactures of the great wine kits that we sell at Wine Sense.

That’s right… Andrew Peller Limited- the largest Canadian owned group of wineries also produces such popular wine kit brands as Selection, Vintners Reserve, Cellar Craft, Cheeky Monkey and all of the other great brands you see at Wine Sense.

So as winemakers we’re only a few degrees of separation away from such great wines as Peller Estates and Trius… which just happened to be the two best wines served at the Gala!

Cheers,

Craig- Wine Sense
