December 28, 2012

As 2012 is quickly fading away- I wish to thank all of our friends, old and new, a safe and Happy New Year. Rest assured I will drink a toast to all of you- and because I really care about you, I will be toasting you with a 2009 Limited Edition Petit Verdot and the last bottle I have of 2009 Limited Edition Pacific Quartet! If you have made either of those wines you know I’m going to have a great New Years Eve  😀

Whatever wine you choose to ring in the New Year with- have a happy and safe New Years Eve!

Wine Pairings for Christmas Dinner

December 21, 2012

The big dinner is only a few days away and if you’re wondering what wines to drink with the big bird here’s a few safe bets-

– For red wine lovers choose a lighter wine like Pinot Noir– its more elegant nature will not over power either turkey or ham.

– For white wine lovers most good white wines will do. Chardonnay and Pinot Grigio will work well and dry is better choice than sweet.

– A nice Blush will also work very well with both turkey and ham but again don’t go too sweet. A French or Spanish Rosé will both work wonderfully.

But when it’s all said and done any wine you have on hand is better than no wine at all!

I wish to take a moment to wish you and your families a safe and Merry Christmas. Eat, drink (wine of course) and be merry.

Merry Christmas!

It’s Time to Bottle!

December 14, 2012

The Easiest Way to Clean Your Bottles!

As we get closer to Christmas many winemakers are in a hurry to get their wine bottled. As a result, many of my customers are asking me what the best way is to I sanitize their bottles.

I recommend two methods:

1- Bring them into my store on Pembina Highway and run the through our Automatic Bottle Washer. The Bottle Washer is a modified industrial dishwasher that sanitizes 30 bottles inside and out in under 8 minutes. Very fast!

2- If coming in to the store is not convenient then I recommend using an Avvinatore Bottle Sulphiter and Aseptox (no rinse sanitizer) to sanitize the inside of the bottles. The Avvinatore squirts sanitizer inside your clean bottles. Then hang the sterilized bottles on a Bottle Tree to drip dry. The Bottle Tree keeps your bottling area neat and tidy while you clean and bottle.

Both methods will save you a lot of time when sanitizing bottles and help relieve a little ‘Holiday Stress’!

Happy Fermenting,

Bruce, Manager (Wine Sense- Pembina Hwy)

Oh yes, for your bottle cleaning convenience, there are Automatic Bottle Washers at our Vermillion, Pembina, Portage and Brandon locations.

The Perfect Stocking Stuffer!

December 7, 2012

Apparently people don’t always finish the bottle?!

Looking for the perfect stocking stuffer? How about the Wine Sense Bottle Stopper? It’s a silicon cap that fits flush on your bottle so the bottle can fit easily in your fridge on the shelf or in the door with out a big hinge or decorative piece getting in the way. The seal is so good the bottle can be stored on its side.

The stoppers come in burgundy and green and will fit in any stocking, so pick some up for all your wine making and wine drinking friends.

The best part? They’re only $1.99 each!

Merry Christmas,

Bruce, Manager (Wine Sense- Pembina Hwy)
