LE17 Hawke’s Bay Merlot

January 16, 2018

We are very fortunate to be offering the New Zealand Hawke’s Bay Merlot as the February wine in the LE17 Collection.

Hawke’s Bay’s temperate climate and plentiful sunshine make the region ideal for fruit-growing with grape vines first planted in 1851.
Hawke’s Bay has since earned itself an international reputation for producing high quality Cabernet & Merlot blends, Syrah, Chardonnay, Pinot Noir and an impressive array of aromatic white wines.

Our LE17 Hawke’s Bay Merlot features ripe fruit with dark, oaky spice and soft tannins with hints of mocha and licorice. It will pair well with any beef dish and of course lamb!

LE17 Hawke’s Bay Merlot arrives later this month. For those of you who didn’t pre-order this fabulous wine- call you favourite Wine Sense location and ask them to reserve one for you before they are gone!

Learning in Wine Country!

October 27, 2017

Last month Wine Sense Managers visited Niagara On The Lake for Management Training. The Niagara region is the heart of Ontario’s wine region and is a wonderful place to visit wineries and experience the wine lifestyle. The town of Niagara On The Lake is a beautiful place loaded with Canadian history and very close to Niagara Falls.

We started our trip with a store management training session from Kevin Graff of Graff Retail, North America’s leading retail training organization. The session was a starting point to continued training focusing on how to better run our stores.

Winexpert and Vineco- ourtwo wine kit brands are owned by Andrew Peller Limited– we visited their Ontario Wine Kit Production facility and warehouse. We were able to see the production process from Juice Storeage, to blending and production to the bag and in the box. It’s an impressive and industry leading plant. We then stopped a the distribution warehouse to see where our orders are picked, packed and shipped from.

To cap it off we visited three of the Andrew Peller Limited Wineries- Peller Estates, Trius and Wayne Gretzky Estate Winery and Distillery. We toured the Wineries on bike and outside of one scraped knee (don’t take photos while riding a bike) it went very well. Peller Estates features the 10 Below Ice Wine Tasting Room and the the Gretzky Winery and Distillery is a must visit for any wine, whiskey or hockey fan!
